MORGEN – the reply to TOMORROW
MORGEN was a long-cherished dream that finally be realized on the occasion of the first Friedensbim in 2014.
Now long out of print, you can find the online version of the first (but hopefully not only) issue of MORGEN here:
TOMORROW - the answer to TODAY
The country of Austria (like many others) has been suffering from the disease of the free tabloid for over 10 years. In fact, the free segment seems to be the only one in the entire industry that still functions brilliantly in terms of market economy.
Readers receive the printed matter free of charge. This leaves them virtually defenceless. Whereas the argument of price (too high) or one's own IQ (too low) still applies in other press publications, there are no more reins here. The readership does not act here according to the principle "what is free cannot be worth anything", but according to the motto: you can't look a gift horse in the mouth.
MORGEN is a monument to the anti-journalism of the local free newspapers. May this disease soon pass through disregard.
Addendum:
The idea for MORGEN is of course not a new one. There has long been a newspaper called the Onion in New York City. MORGEN was - at the same time as the Postillon (and later the Austrian Tagespresse) - the first German-language attempt at a pure fake news newspaper, with the big difference that only good news could be read in MORGEN.
